Postdoctoral researcher - molecular cell biology/physiology

The Vascular Biology laboratory at the Technical University in Munich, Germany (led by Cardiolinc member Lars Maegdefessel) within the Department of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, is looking for a Postdoctoral researcher with experience in molecular cell biology/physiology. The project, which is funded by the ERC Starting Grant NORVAS and the German Center for Cardiovascular Research Center (DZHK), aims to investigate the role and function of long non-coding RNAs and circular RNAs in vascular disease development and progression. The main diseases in focus are aortic aneurysms and advanced atherosclerosis/plaque vulnerability.

The lab is particularly interested in smooth muscle cell biology, and how non-coding RNAs control cell fate decisions. RNA sequencing and single cell analysis in disease-relevant human tissue specimens of the Munich Vascular Biobank have already identified several candidate ncRNAs, which will now be functionally assessed in experimental in vitro and in vivo models (including a novel preclinical model using genetically mutated mini-pigs). Several collaborations within the network of the Munich Heart Alliance exist, and allow access to state-of-the-art core facilities and laboratories. Apart from the local collaborations, this current project is conducted together with partner labs at the Karolinska Institute, Sweden and Stanford University, USA. The host laboratory is located on the Biederstein Campus, along the scenic English Garden in Munich’s Schwabing district.

The applicant must hold a PhD (or equivalent) and should have a strong publication record in international peer reviewed journals indicating appropriate experience. Excellent organizational skills are highly valued, as well as the ability to take initiative to interact as a part of an international team. The lab language is English, therefore speaking German is not a requirement. Desired laboratory skills include extensive experience in molecular biology and physiology. The ideal candidate has worked with non-coding RNAs in previous studies. However, experience with models of cardiovascular disease is not a requirement.

Postdoctoral research fellow - Non-coding RNAs in cardiovascular disease

The focus of the position will be on the importance of miR143HG long non-coding RNA in vascular pathophysiology, with an emphasis on pulmonary hypertension. This will involve analysis of both microRNA and long non-coding RNA in vitro, in vivo and in human biological samples and is in collaboration with Professor Nick Morrell, Cambridge.

Applicants must have a PhD and appropriate experience indicated by publications in international peer reviewed journals. You must possess excellent organisational skills and be capable of individual initiative and of interacting as part of a team. Laboratory skills required include experience in virology, particularly interactions of virus with the host.

Marie Curie Individual Fellowship in Paris (Elvesys Microfluidic)

The young innovative French company Elvesys Microfluidic Innovation Center  in Paris, has a post-doc opportunity related to microfluidics, biology and lab on a chip. The company is looking for candidates to submit with it a prestigious Marie Curie Individual Fellowship application.

Funding Scheme available to British Heart Foundation (BHF) Chairholders

Professor Costanza Emanueli, British Heart Foundation Chair of Cardiovascular Science, University of Bristol, is looking for a talented scholar to sponsor under a BHF scholarship scheme. The scholarship will be available from June 2017, however, it is possible to start the contract from April 2017.

The candidate should be able to co-write a grant and/or prepare a personal fellowship during the scholarship period (15-17 months). The scheme pays either the scholar’s salary or a BHF stipend and university fees (if the scholar has registered for a PhD). The scheme aims to support young researchers for an interim period while they secure longer-term funding from the BHF or another source, ultimately encouraging and helping them to pursue a career in academic cardiovascular science or medicine.

Research Associate - Non-coding RNAs into Ischaemic Heart Disease

The School of Clinical Sciences have a vacancy for a Research Associate working in the Bristol Royal Infirmary.

You will assist the laboratory of Professor Costanza Emanueli's group in successful networks of basic and clinical scientists working at progressing basic science research to clinically useful applications where this new post will benefit from working in this exciting, multidisciplinary environment.

This role will look to understand the contribution of non-coding RNAs into ischaemic heart disease associated with diabetes mellitus funded by the British Heart Foundation in collaboration with Imperial College London, where travel is expected between both sites involved in the research.

A grade 8 or 9 senior scientist position in non-coding RNA in cardiovascular disease is available to join the Centre for Cardiovascular Sciences, aligned with the British Heart Foundation Chair held by Professor Andrew H Baker. The post is available until 31 July 2021 and is suited to someone wishing to develop an independent research career in the above field or research and will develop a research group and generate high impact publications.

The successful candidate may be enrolled in the Edinburgh Scientific Academic Training programme (ESAT).
